The Living Tree Root Bridges of Cherrapunji

The tree bridges in meghalaya,  are actual living bridges carefully manipulated from seed to grow in a very controlled manner, only being allowed to fully take root once they have grown across the river in qquestion. These spectacular bridges can reach over 100 feet long , and some of the oldest bridges are over 500 years old, the idea of living structure is fascinating and intriguing, something that could be explored further in environment design, perhaps into more complex or alternative architectural structures.

It struck my after finding the above image (from the 1993 PC games, Legend of Kyrandia 2, upscaled and smoothed in PS) , how important reference and research can be in the design process, what appears to be a flight of fantasy, is actually a strange reality.
